Description
Join us for a two-part walk-shop that opens a door into urban ecology through the art of gardening.
We begin outside, exploring the plant life growing in the margins of the city, sidewalk cracks, back alleys, unoccupied plots, the base of mature trees, and vertical surfaces. Children will observe, touch, and identify plant forms, spot non-human species, and slowly collect found materials of value: clay, metal, plastic, and cellulose that can become growing vessels, and seeds, seedlings, or cuttings ready to take root.
Back inside the museum, participants are welcomed with snacks and a rest before joining a guided walk through our Paper Gardens exhibition — a moment to look, be inspired, and imagine. We then settle into the courtyard to compose miniature landscapes from everything gathered along the way.
Each creation will be watered and exhibited at the museum until the end-of-camp showcase, after which families are welcome to take the pieces home.
As part of the session involves working outdoors with soil, participants should come prepared with a water bottle, sunscreen, and a cap, dressed in loose, comfortable clothing.
